Still with the fake "Jewish space lazers" story. The dishonesty is why people are leaving. And, when a normal person now sees that she made an honest bet on some stock and lost, people are glad to know that she isn't an inside trader like so many of our corrupt representatives.

We both know that Social Security has been used as a focal point issue for a long time. At least since the 1970s. I remember hearing how it would not exist by the time my generation (X) got to retirement age. It’s been used as a fear mongering tactic that long. I also remember that the world was heading into an Ice Age and acid rain was going to fry us all. I believe we should just cross that bridge when it stands before us.
Threatening older folks by saying they are cutting SS is pot stirring I’d imagine.

You aware of the 13th Step? It’s a play on AA 12 Step where the 13th Step is the one where people in their recovery are preyed upon sexually. Not raped directly…but when they are in a weakened state it’s easier to manipulate a person into making bad relationship decisions. That’s the reasoning behind addicts not getting involved with other addicts in recovery. In your friend’s situation….a counselor was not doing their job perhaps. Hard to say from here though. Sad.

My opinion on abortion is freedom of choice. I can understand the ethical fiasco that can be argued from both sides…so I think it best to let an individual make her choice what to do with her body. I don’t believe a man has the right to stop her. I do believe when it concerns the birth of a child and its rearing that the one should be 100% committed and if not….should not have to have a child. More people should be that honest and not swayed by public opinion or religion. There are lots of people who can not afford the kids they are having.
Well with regard to Social Security we are practically at the point of it failing. Not entirely mind you but if something isn't done in the next 8-10 years the 2 Trillion currently in the trust fund will be exhausted and that will force cuts to everyone on Social Security of about 20% based on current estimates. This isn't fear mongering it's just simple math. The money that comes in from people currently working and paying into the system covers about 80% of the benefits paid out each year, the other 20% comes out of the trust fund until it runs dry. We've been aware of this future since the 70's and yet we didn't really do much to fix the problem, mainly because the best solutions that will extend the life of Social Security the longest involve taking money from the people who can most afford to have that money taken. The absolute best method would be to remove the cap that stops FICA deductions at about $170,000 per year but that would essentially be seen as a tax on the rich and we all know how hard the rich try to avoid taxes. That one move alone is projected to keep Social Security Solvent for at least another 75 years. The next best solution for extending the life of Social Security is to means test who actually recieves it when they reach retirement. In other words if you have a nice nest egg of money that will keep you living comfortably without Social Security then you shouldn't need the additional 2-3 grand of monthly benefits that social security provides. Personally I don't like that method because I believe that everyone who has money taken from them to guarentee a future benefit upon retirement then they are entitled to that money regardless of how much money they've saved for retirement. The only other things we've done have only extended Social Security by a handful of years, things like increasing the retirement age or taxing money earned after people start collecting Social Security also they made it where people with jobs that provided guarenteed government pensions (ie police, fire fighters, government workers, etc.) got less Social Security benefits then others who earned roughly the same amount while working. Unfortunately those last two things were undone or about to be undone this past year so any extension of Social Security from those moves will be lost.

I guess I am and at the same time was not aware of the 13th Step. What I mean by that is I never heard of it being talked about as an unwritten step but I was aware that it is strongly suggested that recovering addicts avoid sexual relationships (any relationships, not just with other addicts) for at least a year after reaching the 12th step. While I'm sure my friend was exposed to the 12 steps when she was forced into recovery in lieu of going to jail. Knowing her I'm sure she just went thru the motions of the steps to keep from violating probation but never embraced the program on her own since it was something she was forced to do. I would say it wasn't a matter of someone failing her by not doing their job but rather her failing herself by not making her recovery the most important thing in her life rather then just staying out of jail being that most important thing.

As far as abortion we are pretty much on the same page. I believe it should be left up to the individual. Forcing somone to have to go full term and raise a child they don't really want is a good way of increasing the number of docio/psycho paths in the world, made that way by not being raised in a loving environment where they feel wanted and valued. If society wants to force women to go full term then at a minimum it should provide a whole lot mor options for the mother not wanting to raise the child to be able to have someone that does want the child to take over after birth. Unfortunately there are too few programs that offer anything close to that. It would seem that society's concern for the welfare of a child mostly stops once the child is born.

Imagine if Joey's Secretary of Defense accidently texted classified war plans to the wrong people.
You don't even really need to do that, just look at how ape shit the Republicans went over Hillary using her own private server and called for her to be jailed even after she was fully investigated and it was determined that while some unauthirized people could have recieved classified info no evidence was ever found that anyone ever did recieve information they shouldn't have.

Both things can be right. Pete can be making big mistakes and dei lowers candidate quality.

Say your pool of people to draw from is 100,000,000. In America saying you’re picking a black candidate reduces your pool to draw from to 15,000,000.
This is a fubndemntal misunderstanding of how DEI actually works. There is nothing in DEI that says you have to hire an unqualified candidate. It just says that you can't pass up on hiring a qualified candidate based on race, gender or disabilities. The ral issu isn't that under qualified people are being hired over qualified people. it's that qualifid people who don't get hired are unable to accept that a woman, a minority or someone disabled can be as qualifid or even more qualified then them.

If your wife is Swedish and especially if she looks like the stereotypical Swedish person then chances are better then not she won't have any problems. Here skin color is of the approved tone for Trump's America.

Nothing could help an incumbent Australian government more that having another country try to bully them. Tends to get ordinary citizens backs up.

Even helping Keir Starmer in UK.

US losing trust of all their allies. Trust is hard to regain.
This is true, because even if Trump is kept from serving beyond 2028 and a Democrat or even Republican that wants to return to how foreign policies used to be, there is still the mistrust of the American people being fooled into electing someone as bad as Trump if not worse in the future.
