This is the kind of Thai brick, we saw in the coffeeshop around 2010.

Wow that marketing is next level!Nice dream to have a farm in Thailand - growing heirloom sativas - for preservation and distribution - but to get all of that paid for and set up - until it's productive and profitable in a growing Thai market - with all of the intricate difficulties and costs - licences and taxes it will present - looks like a challenge I'm not in good shape to attempt right now - without a sponsor and help from many others to achieve - it's a big project that would require an expert grower who can live and work in Thailand for the next few years - to bring the idea to fruition -
I'm kinda stuck in the UK with 2 teenage kids right now - needing my support for at least the next 3 years - before I could embark on such a venture - and by then I'd be 68 years old - and hopefully (depending on my health) - still up for visiting Thailand occasionally -
Times change - and the names of the 'erb changes with it - so it seems - and for many years I was a major cannabis seed distributor - noticing that over more than 20 years the vast majority of seeds sold were indica hybrids - most growers wanted plants that produced the highest yield in the shortest growing time - and most tokers were after the highest THC level Indicas - the same seems to apply in Thailand today -
Pure sativas are rare to find these days and seem to be only of value to a niche market of growers and tokers - sadlyView attachment 19129091
Its well made, very shiny, popping colours and americanized. Very pushy. i find it a bit scary. But yeah, highend capitalistic marketing like with every other a bit more valuable product.
superheroes that name the strain, I think that is too much. You shouldnt make weed that appetizing to the youth and children. Imo
If there would be the same marketing with thai/landrace cultivars, i wouldnt be so negative about it (except the superheroes)
it would be a niche market there. Imagine, a nice hostel in thailand, with beautiful nature around and different landrace cultivars to enjoy your trips through the beaches and jungles. Woaah. I would try to go there as much as i can.
maybe there is another thread, but how is the legislation now in 25 in thailand. Can the people of thailand still grow and sell there like before? I thought there is a more conservative change coming?
@Gypsy Nirvana would be awesome if those Thai stick seeds you offered years ago are still around, hopefully there are still things out there that are similar
The interesting Thai Brick I came across was purchased waaay down in Southern Thailand - at a kinda outdoor/corner in a small village - on Koh Lanta - not far from Krabi - and I'd presume that it was grown - dried and pressed more locally than very faraway in Isan - but then ya never know these days - 'erb can travel across the country via post swiftly - but I've known the guy who sold me the Thai Brick Weed - from other trips out that way - he used to sell CBD fruit/milkshakes a few years back - and now he can sell flowers - so he's a happy camper -
damn, it's the same here in the u.s. (at least here in the east coast), every once in awhile i'll see a ssh or jack cross, but it's mostly OGs and GSCs and anything named after dessert.
the war on drugs is one of the most destructive crapstains on posterity, and although in ways it is winding down, its fx are still felt (how many nonviolent offenders behind bars?)... sorry for the rant, just this thread is poignant. awesome, but poignant.

Me I don't smoke , but my family and team them do since very long timeI found this podcast with Prempavee and her Husband, they didn't grow cannabis before it became legal I wounder if they even smoke.

I am a big fan of Thai cannabis, have been for a very long time what if any projects are in place to try and collect the very old lines that were around in the 60s and 70s that made Thai cannabis famous from the older growers /smokers as that quality does not seem to be available any more.

The lack of experience by the modern Thai ganja farmers may play a big part in the lack of good traditional Thai herb being available. It’s going to take a good number of years before there are expert outdoor herb farmers in that environment like there was before the 80’s .
The excellent herb was produced by excellent farmers with hundreds of years of tradition behind them .

Some of the folk that knew and grew the Thai sticks should still be alive, yeah?
Maybe instead of hunting the seed and weed, a better approach would be to focus on finding the people? Maybe one should hire a treasure hunter who can work backwards on a very cold trail using investigative savvy. Maybe start with the CIA?

Today for the first time I saw young thai people buying. Finally I arrived to the first dispensaries out of the way that cater to the young thai local people
Cannaeconomy is interesting. The disparities in pricing between the local market and tourist market are between x10 and x20
This is at dispensary one, jars with pricing. I also saw trim available for 10baht gram. Names and pricing in the jars. It is all modern indoor weed

It is also indoor weed like everywhere else.

Platinum Kush. A 10 gram slab made with the trim probably, a nice handicraft reminiscent of old times sold for 80 baht, 8 baht a gram
This is platinum kush kif. One gram 40 baht. The cheapeast I saw in Sukhumvit for kif was 450baht a gram

Their reccomendation was King Juice. I am trying it now, not much different from the rest

yea maybe ,
but they will be old given its over 40 years ago they stopped that trade ,
and likely , they are not really interested or worried about it either ,
certainly not in the way we are
and if they did and on the off chance they had seed, very off chance, the seed would be so old there is little to no chance of any striking..
i did watch a youtube clip of some folks trying to hunt down folks who knew , or were there during those times , its on this forum somewhere,
they found 1 old lady who said she used to help make thai sticks , out where prem is from what i recall , or there abouts ...

yeah the prices on the strip are insane !
i saw people asking 800baht for crap lol
at PhiPhi island theres one lady on the left side of the dock beach who selled amazing white truffle 5 for a 1000 . About as good as saltgrown gets , properly dried properly burning .
the rest of island was pure trash
in Hua Hin there was this bar called the Lush Bar which was a very nice place to chill out at
they sold 350b zkittlez .... which wasnt really skittlez .....but it was nice !
the cheaper 150b varieties were also very nice
Hoo Hoo Hemp in bangkok had atleast 50 different strains on display .
i asked the budtender "whats fresh" and he pointed me to Animal Mints and Marker
one was 3.5 for 20 , the other 3.5 for 10 , and both were pretty good !
they also sold brickweed but all the bricks were too big for my taste .
Fatbuds bangkok had the best selection and prices i think , cant remember what i got

Most of the modern lines come from a very small Jean pool Funky, that's why they look and smoke the same.
Who's behind the indoor productions ? it's westerners that are partnering up with Local Thai people to get around the legal framework.
All they care about is bag appeal and a 55-day flower, it's a commercial model that they run in Cali and where ever else it's legal.
