Strain with huge calyx?

G

Guest

Are there any strains that have huge or at least big calyx(s). If not that would be cool if a breeder, breed for a strain with abnormally big calyx(s)...

My Mystery Strain' does, but unfortunately no-one knows what it is! I suspect some sativa-dom NL offshoot, or a very fast JH (56 days), but not sure really - however, this one does produce some extremely large calyxes...:)

There are more than enough strains which developed bigger bracts than others , mostly phenotype dependant ... like in Dj Shorts F-13

well 1 plant from his BlueMoonshine showed bigger bracts than her sisters

And 1 phenotype of Venomhead is showing up in dense big bracts with very less leaf content ...

I'm a fan of big calyxes also. Pure thais are without question the largest calyxed varietied I've ever seen. I've seen thai calyxes that were 3/8" long!!! Damn, I wish I still had that cut. Bsc's original green (little star, Sao Paulo Green) and some of it's hybrids have some very large fat teardrop shaped calyxes. Also our f3 acapulco gold x (oaxacan pelo rojo/parvati) has pretty large calyxes though oddly most of it's pedigree doesnt. The haze from hothouse flowers seed company from the pictures looks to have very large calyxes. I don't know if he's still selling them but Goldking's thai '79 I'm sure has some big calyxes. Some thai dominant hawaiian strains can be large calyxed like the greengenes cherry bomb and puna butter are more than likely large calyxed. Marijuana botany by Robert Connell Clarke says seed size is directly related to calyx size but I disagree. The deep chunk seeds I'd gotten originally were very large (though the f2's were more normal sized) but the plants had medium small calyxes. Some colombians have absolutely tiny seeds and medium/large calyxes. Good luck in your quest. Personally I'd try to see if goldking still has any thai '79 seeds to sell. I hope he doesn't mind me posting that.

thx holy .... and zamalito ... , i think its very wise to select for greater bract size as more glands can find their space and thats what we are all after :chin:

I can update this with a pic of a seeded clone (pollenated with Flo) of a mystery Jamaican that I just cut - despite the seeds, they're pretty large anyway - and purple...looks like a raspberry... :chin:

I have g-13 afghani which during reversion creates calyxs the size of spanish peanuts. These calyxs develop small buds inside them.. As if they were a raincoat for a smaller bud developing...I freaked on the first one i busted open to feel if it was solid . :dueling:
Also the g-13xnlxkush has calyxs which are huge, like the fallbrook indica roadkill skunk.... :woohoo:
