First Grow of 2022 - Mephisto Double Grape & SS O.G. Kush

I started out my Grow Diary on a couple of other forums to get maximum input and totally forgot the ICM had a "Grow Section." So, I apologize if you have seen my Notes before.

I am only on Day 7. But to avoid too much redundancy, I'm not going to post all my stats before Day 6, but I'll share the photos and a few thoughts. Thanks for following along.

Here's a close-up of my BluMat setup.

They were put in the soil on December 29, and on January 1, both seeds made their debut ... battle helmets and all.

The next morning I helped them out of their seed shells, but the Kush had "helmet hair."

In less than 2 hours the OG worked itself out:

OG Kush - Day 3 - 2 inches tall

Double Grape - Day 3 - 1 inch tall ... same as yesterday.

Day 6 - My OG Kush is getting taller. I raised the PPFD from low 300s to low 400s before she gets too lanky (see pics).

Yesterday (Jan 6) - I woke and found that I had a stow-away growing with the OG Kush.

As you can see, the Kush has made friends with the soil-moisture sensor.

Mephisto Double Grape - Not showing much growth in the last 3 days (of 6). But, looking pretty.

Still Day 6 of 7 - Kush is growing what looks like Dumbo ears. I had to put a support stick to hold up the stem.

Speaking of the "Gimp." This little seedling is trying to pull through. The leaves were mostly shriveled, now showing regeneration.

End of Day 8 Stats & Notes

This morning I was worried about the use of my reservoir as one big pot of soup. So, I emptied about 7 gallons of water that are properly PPM'd and with bits of Kelp, Silica, Recharge, etc. The nutrient water was replaced with a 3-gallon bottle of some filtered water I filled up in town at a water/ice kiosk.

I decided to make my rez just for water to the BluMats. In turn, when I want to feed or amend I will do it by hand. I might shut off the BluMat water the day before to let it dry up some before hitting them with gogo juice.

This morning, I shut off the water supply and fed the soil with about 1/2 liter of Tribus, Mr. Fulve, and MSA. I used well below label suggestion.

This decision moved my BluMat Soil-Moisture Meter into the very wet zone, which I expected. Once the meters get back up to about 90-100, I'll do a fresh water feed and watch for the leaves to tell me a story.

Notables:

(1) The Double Grape finally grew out of its 1.5-inch body to 1.75" (44.5mm). However, the DG did get to 3 inches wide (76.2mm).

(2) The O.G. Kush is still stuck at 2.75", but did hit 5" wide.

(3) Once I get my first node, I'll get the PPFD closer to a consistent upper 600. When I notice pre-flower signs I'll go to 800 and ease up to 900-1000. I don't use CO2, so I don't plant to exceed 1000.

(4) It will be fun to see how long this soil mix takes to get back to the edge of dry.

Day 10 - Shenanigans

Noteworthy:

(1) Rez water continues to drop in PPM as I start adding RO water into it. I had put 3 gallons of purified water with low PPM so that I didn't have to waste the water.

(2) Double Grape is on the move. They both move slow and fast depending on the day.

(3) I added in a Tower Fan to add to stem and leave agitation. My other two 12" fans are mounted up high but are blocked a little because of the LED light.

(4) Kush has turned a corner and started showing maturation.

(5) Both fabric pots are drying up nicely. I watch my sensors and the fabric-pot weight before I give the plant and soil something to eat.

FYI - Regarding BluMat Soil-Moisture Sensors, the manufacturer has suggested the following:

"For high-value crops like hemp, a reading of 100 millibars for the vegetative stage and 120-150 millibars for the flowering stage is ideal. These numbers may vary dependent on variety.

The lower the number readings, the wetter the soil. On average, the standard Blumat setting of two arrows down from a drop holding = 120 mb. (Ideal settings for cannabis growing = 120-150 mb in veg, 150-180 in bloom). The higher the reading, the drier."

Day 12 - Thoughts

(1) I've changed up my stats grid to add:
(a) Desired RH% (based on Leaf Temp)
(b) Desired Leaf VPD based on Temp
(c) Status VPD

Status VPD is to have the following categories:
(1) Perfect (when in the range on VPD chart)
(2) High Critical
(3) High Danger
(4) Low Critical
(5) Low Danger

Day 12 (PM) -- Thoughts and Decisions

Gave a light soil feeding with Mr. Fulvic, MSA, and a hint of Tribus. I mixed it with 435 ppm of Jacks 3-2-1. In total it was about 8 oz in each pot.

Added Nutrients back into reservoir. Will post final PPM & pH tomorrow.

Raised lights up 2 inches to lower PPFD from 775 to 682 on the Double Grape ... 833 down to 737 on the OGK.

I think I damaged a leaf when I was measuring with the yard stick. That is unless someone knows if that is a critter's work.

Thanks. I've been tweaking the stats page for the most relevant info. I also realize after the seedling stage that daily pictures can get pretty boring until the flowers start. So, I'll try to put up interesting or unique shots for a while.

After this weekend I'll only post stats once a day (AM mostly). It's just right now they are growing so quickly it is fun to see how much they grow between the two measurements a day.

OGK is only 5.5 in tall, but is 13 inches wide as of this AM.

Double Grape is 3.5 inches tall and 7.75 inches tall as of this AM.
