Huge Increase in Marijuana Seizures in California
The Feds report today that this year there was a 50% increase in seizures of illegally grown marijuana in California over 2008. 4.4 million plants were eradicated in California by the end of the annual Campaign Against Marijuana Planting (CAMP) operation. That is ten times as many plants as seized in 2003. Authorities put the value of the seized plants at $17.8 billion. That is only what they seized, imagine what they missed! Now imagine the taxes that could be generated thru legalization.
The increase in seizures is attributed to the increased use of helicopters to locate grows in the National forests.

I suppose we should congratulate Shasta County for it's zeal in growing cannabis, if it were not for the fact that most of those grows damage the land... Lake County too has made it into the big time (Lake was #1 last year). When will these announcements be accompanied by awards for the biggest mj growing counties?
BTW, I noticed that LA county reported quadruple the number of plants seized over last year!
Don't want illegal grows on public lands to keep increasing? Then LEGALIZE IT!

4045 USD per plant??? Authorities need at least an abacus to make the numbers fit.

The government is so stupid, instead of speading 17 Billion, they could make 20 Billion in taxes. Lets see thats about a 37 Billion dollar swing. Hard to believe anybody could be that stupid.

Well, I am all for the overgrowing, and of course, there is PLENTY of legal raids happening, BUT, I really don't think that anyone has a right to be growing their commercial supply in National Forests. Especially keeping in mind that MOST of these large gardens like this are TRULY the result of drug cartels and those breaking the law.
I'm not patting them (the gov) on the back, but at the same time, I'd rather have them flying over those fields and tearing out those plants, than harassing medical clubs and co-ops and LEGAL MMJ patients any day...

just remember that the numbers indicate marijuana seized not grown. I don't think anyone wants a trophy for this, maybe you could give one to the police from the county that detects the least amount of grows.

I agree that these assholes just make everyone look bad, but how many of those illegal growers do you think supply to med clubs and patients?
I think its also up to consumers to stop buying from these people.
