Perfect Example of Drug War Propaganda

Here's a perfect example of the continuing drug war propaganda in the face of scientific evidence to the contrary.

A study from the University of Pittsburg concludes that PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder results in more people "abusing" cannabis and "having deviant friends." No doubt others who use cannabis.

Did it ever occur to them that maybe cannabis, a plant used medicinally for thousands of years, might be helping these people cope with their PTSD. I know a number of Vietnam Vets who say the marijuana helps them tremendously with PTSD.

So why look at cannabis use as a disorder (CUD) when in fact it is a therapy. Get real. Even the UK drug czar and top UK scientist agree that marijuana is less harmful than alcohol and tobacco, so stop with this drug war propaganda. People know better and won't believe this crap anymore.

It's quite interesting how they fiddle with the facts, and jump to a conclusion, namely that PTSD causes aberrant, negative behaviors to develop, when in fact these people are self-medicating, relieving their symptoms without having to use prescription drugs (the real crime in their eyes).

So they manage to turn something good about the medical benefits of marijuana into something bad, simply because they make the erroneous assumption that marijuana itself is bad.

This is the mindset that must be changed!

My uncle was in some massacre, where thousands died, he was in the mental hospital for two months. Terrible ptsd and all sorts of bad shit, like flashbacks and stuff. He admits to everybody everywhere that mushrooms, grass, lsd and cacti helped him get over the ordeal. His family didn't believe him, and insist that he had 'drug problems'. That is until I told them of some study done in denver where ecstasy was used to help ptsd...

Some people are ignorant, until somebody they respect tells them other than what they believe.

As the current UK news shows - Science has long been co-opted by politics.

The fact is that anyone who has even the slightest integrity on the drug issue simply won't get funding.

The only studies that do get funding have to conform to the political orthodoxy.

Remember, "scientists" are the ones who told us for centuries that the earth was not only flat but the center of the universe. There modern day equivalent "scientists" have done reams of studies justifying tobacco and radiation from various sources.

No plant has been studied for its possible harmful effects like cannabis has been. The amount of time and money and effort to try to find bad in it vs the good effects is insane. It should already have passed fda standards, while drugs like xanax or zoloft should still be in testing for all of their terrible side effects.

Every negative side effect of cannabis that has been fed to the public over the last hundred years has been a load of bs and has been disproven. Unfortunately, books cannot be unwritten, and stupid/ unethical people will keep quoting old "facts" (propoganda) instead of checking new ones.

Most people are sheep. They follow whoever the Shepard is. In this case, it is Americans blindly following the government. Doesn't seem like much will change, people are pack animals and need a pack leader. What the leader decided to do with that power is up to him or her.

It may have been scientists saying that the earth was at the center of the universe, but it was the Church who jailed and/or killed people who expressed a contrary belief, or gave evidence to further that view of the universe. The view that we now know to be correct.

What interests me about what you said is that the Government is now in the same position that the church was in times prior to the "enlightenment". You see them doing the same things that the church did to people with contrary opinions to the party line, anything to upset the status quo.

Separation of church and state was a good idea, but now the state is the religion. Yep, secular religion. If you're not with us you're against us. Doesn't matter what makes sense. Doesn't matter what science tells us. Nothing matters but the will of the state. We will tell you what is good for you, and how you should behave. If you don't fall in line, we will jail you, we will seize your property, we will destroy your life, and if it pleases us we will kill you. What gives governments the right to treat us in a way that we decided long ago was inappropriate for religion? What can we do?

Great post!

We are an oppressed minority in this country (and around the world too!)

This is an issue of human rights and maybe that is how it should be framed now. By making that the issue, people can challenge marijuana laws around the world. If anti-marijuana legislation hinders human rights, then such laws can be declared illegal.

Can we now start calling medical marijuana busts HATE CRIMES?

Too bad Obama didn't have the balls to add that to the recent bill. These are indeed hate crimes because the punishments are worse than the "crime" of self-medicating. We've been threatened, arrested, incarcerated, even left to die in pain. If that isn't symptomatic of hate against cannabis users I don't know what is.

good point OB......If some of these "So-called" politicians would be subjected to punishment for the "crimes" they have commited i think most of them would be barking up a different tree....seeing as most of them have tried an illegal substance at least once....whether it be Cocaine or Marijuana ect. Its time to quit bieng hypocrits

Here's an article from Time Magazine about how marijuana can be used to treat PTSD. What a timely response to the propaganda piece!

Don't forget that industrial hemp is lumped in there too. It's one of the fastest growing biomasses and I believe the US has more exported to it than any other country. Here's an interesting link on hemp http://www.ecofibre.com.au/facts.html . Seems if it was legal (both industrial and medicinal) the United States financial woes would disappear.
