root pruning

Hey fellow coconauts!

I'm currently having issues with my coco, this all started last harvest, it was my first time flowering clones in coco, all went well until about my 6th week of flowering c99 i got a weird lockout, however i still made it to harvest and it was great! fast forward the clones of the keeper c99 were kept in coco in red party cups, i made the mistake of not flushing the used coco well and replanted my clones in it, well after about 3 weeks all hell breaks loose and they start getting nute burn from built up salts. So i do a flush and find out my ppm is like 1100ppm for these fairly decent size clones in red party cups so i knew something was wrong. well after several flushing s i get it down to around 500-600ppm still no good so i read somewhere that a good root pruning and fresh coco will almost always solve the problem. Does anyone have any info they could share on root pruning coco and keeping a mom in it the do's and don'ts of raising a beautiful young milf in coco!!!
lights= 300 watt fluorescent and a horticultural fluorescent 150w
soil= coco
nutes= gh
pot size= red party cups

not at the time vegan i was straight autopilot, i would when I thought about give them straight water but the formula was pretty much a low diluted gh rez/head mixture

Wait...What?

can you pot up instead of pruning roots back?

as a hydro grower, im kinda used to rinsing starter medium off roots - you could bare-root the plant, rinse the heck out of the medium, and restart

the stress will set you back a few days, for whatever it is worth. sometimes 3 days of stress and recovery is worth the effort. only the grower on-site knows for sure...

good luck!

and take my posts with a grain of salt. i grow more than i post and sometimes my posts come off weird. or maybe the content is weird. i just encourage people to try things, is all. decide for yourself whether what i post is valid or not. :)

How often do you water? How large are the plants in question when they start to give problems?

If you need to repot in the coco same pots. Trim a little off the tops, wait a 2 days, then trim aprox. the same percentage from the roots and replant with some fresh coco. Just watch if your plants get dry in such small containers. Depending on genetics and health/vigor you can go anywhere from 6-8 months without needing a root prune in such small containers, though there are usually exceptions to the rule.

Happy gardening

500-600ppm (ec 1.0 ish) is ok. I had problems once after not flushing the coir enough and i'm not sure that root prunning will help.
Once you've flushed them just give them light feeds (ec 1.0 ish) with some sort of tonic (seaweed extract-Superthrive-whatever you use) and nurse them back-

good luck

:yes:... after few cycles, should get to no-lock-out...
fast forward the clones of the keeper c99 were kept in coco in red party cups, i made the mistake of not flushing the used coco well and replanted my clones in it, well after about 3 weeks
rooted clones should not be in red party cups, after 3 weeks...
maybe root-bound, w/ little room for air in the container.
all hell breaks loose and they start getting nute burn from built up salts. So i do a flush and find out my ppm is like 1100ppm for these fairly decent size clones in red party cups so i knew something was wrong.
yes... the plants are growing very fast @ that stage (fresh roots, seeking to expand). as this occur, root ec increases... 1st due to more root mass, & then due to concentration already in media...
well after several flushing s i get it down to around 500-600ppm still no good so i read somewhere that a good root pruning and fresh coco will almost always solve the problem.
maybe to re-pot into a larger container, w/ more medium.
if roots are damaged, brown & soggy, remove gently, w/ clean, sharp, sterilized scissors... if plants are suffering, they are prey for the many bacterial pathogens always in air... so clean garden tools, a+!

root pruning can be used to keep mums... but maybe little different than raising & caring for clones...

this may be helpful:
ALL ABOUT BONSAI MOMS/MUMS

maybe :yes: tech on mums & some on root pruning, too.

however, root pruning can be good, if plant is healthy... maybe not so good if plant already not so good shape...
lights= 300 watt fluorescent and a horticultural fluorescent 150w
how close to plants? & what is the temps? & rh?
soil= coco
nutes= gh
pot size= red party cups
@ stage plants seem to be @... maybe just ph-adjusted water 5.0-6.0 for week-2 weeks... they have plenty reserves already in roots, stored.
after that, gh nutes @ 500 ppm, or 1/2 tsp of most of their nutes, ph 5.7... should be :yes:...

hope this helps. enjoy your garden!
