Venting inside?

I currently have 2 1Ks vented with a couple of squirrel cage blowers. The intake is from a DIY box in a small high window, and the exhaust goes out the dryer vent. I have no odor control and I'm a couple days from going 12/12 and they're already starting to stink. The exhaust even stinks outside (small flaws in my DIY sheet metal hoods) and that's a nightmare waiting to happen, so I've got to get this under control fast. Problem is I'm flat broke so I need to do as much as I can with what I've got on hand.

Since winter is coming on I'm thinking about removing the window box, closing the window, and detaching the exhaust from the dryer vent. Then I could just open the grow room door and let the house temps average out. It would save me some electricity running the furnace, and prevent the odor from pumping out of the dryer vent.

I have a decent window unit installed in my room, so if I have to I can always close the door again and crank up the AC to bring temps down a bit, maybe run the intake and exhaust to the living space of my home.

My real question is, could I take an extra blower I have and rig it up to a DIY carbon filter (super cheapo, like cardboard, duct tape, carbon) and kill the odors inside my home? I'm really not up to speed on how carbon filters work and need some advice.

I'm not worried about odor inside the house, really, just the smell outside. I'd prefer to kill all odor, but outside is the only important thing to me.

you can recirculate the heated grow room into your house but it will stink and you might have inadequate fresh air and humidity buildup. I'm also trying to do the same thing. Somewhere in your house, you will need to do some exhausting to the outdoors. The draftier your house is, the less need for extra ventilation. You can make your own carbon filter for cheap. There are some great DIY stickies here about just that. Make it BIG. Recirculating smelly air is harder to clean. Good luck

If draftier is what I need, then I'm in luck. My house is like Swiss cheese, lol. Thanks for the advice.

Hey, if I put my window AC on "fan" or recirculate or whatever, no cooling just blowing, would that help keep humidity down the way it does when cooling?

how about filling some panty hose with carbon and sticking it in the vent right before it exits...or even before

I blow the exhaust from my small room into the larger one, then through my DIY scrubber, which is in the DIY sticky, and into my veg room where the air is free to come back and warm my house. It has to be below 40 before I turn my furnace on, cause 3K warms a lot of air. Do it.

just watch the high humidity buildup inside, my house is done this way with the ac used to heat the drying area, and air then pulled thru a srubber and blown into the main room, does cut the heating bill and with the woodstoves dry air it seems to work out, but do keep an eye for mildew on your walls. jc

I am recirculating in the house.

For this winter I stuck a 1200w heater in my bedroom:

I have a few more K worth of heat in the back of the house.

It works!

No Dude, The compressor has to be on to dehumidify. If only the fan is on you are only recirculating air.

How close are your neighbors? How about mailbox Does the mailman walk up to the house? UPS driver? Smell will get you in trouble! you never know who will show up. Then they walk away wondering where the Fook is that skunk? LOL
I once had a State trooper walk within ten feet of an 8K setup! I was shitting CINDER BLOCKS! He showed up to see something I was selling for him! Mother Fer walked right into my back warehouse!
:spank: :bashhead: :asskick: :cuss: :spank:

BUT NO smell, No Problem! Hide in plain sight my man but keep the smell under control!

Good luck with your grow!

i guess you can vent inside into another part of the house to benefit from the heat with winter coming up I'd still scrub it with carbon though

venting outside w/o controlling the smell is a good way to get found out..... but i think you already now that!!!! i use to stick dryer sheets at the end of my exhaust to cover the smell, but that's like the band-aid for the broken leg....... get a charcoal filter asap!!! jail is an awful fuked up place and if 100 bucks can keep you from that..... recycle cans, or something.... well good luck and be safe :rasta:
