All my life I have been into Astronomy and even bought a few telescopes (not very good ones) over the years
well as my 50th Birthday is approaching I decided to get a bit more serious about this and bought myself a nice present

for now I'm using a video camera to do planetary work while I await the arrival of a new DSLR
that has been specially modified for Astro Photography to allow me to do DSO imaging (Deep Space Objects)

anyone else here into star gazing

yes the mount is an EQ motorised mount to track objects
I've recently hooked it up to my laptop
that way I can work from indoors and control the telescope across my network
and view the camera on my PC rather than freezing my nuts off outside

Sweet rig, oldpink. I'm a big fan as well. Had a variety of scopes so I know the feeling when you finally throw down on a nice one. Happy Birthday, btw.

I'm just now getting into astrophotography! I don't own a camera yet but I have a wide field, fast focal ratio telescope with a motorized mount, and I'm about to buy one of those digital eyepiece cameras that hooks up straight to the computer.

Nice images of Jupiter! Is that a stacked image or a single exposure?

Morcheeba* yes if you can hook your laptop up to your TV but you need the laptop to capture the video feed

Hush its a stacked image done using PIPP to centre and crop then Registax for stacking and wavelet processing
captured using Firecapture

today I got my DSLR thats been modified for Astro photography so now I can move onto DSO's as well as use it to do planets and moon mosaic's
as I can only get parts of it into the FOV at any one time

nice newtonian reflector OP... 8" ??
and nice pics.... it can be an addicting hobby for sure!
technology has made astro photography extremely easy to do and fairly inexpensive and the quality of scopes for the price is unbelievable compared to 40yrs ago

when i was 9 i got my 1st real telescope
a 2-1/4" refractor w/EQ mount.
in the 60s drives for the EQ mounts were pretty pricey
i was a lucky kid just to get what i got

I'm just waiting on an adapter ring for my DSLR to allow me to connect it up to do nebula's & galaxy's
most of it is done via a laptop and software to allow very long exposures and I control the telescope from the laptop
that way I can set up remote access and do my astro photography fron the comfort of my main PC indoors
last part of the

if you have a Synscan controller look into EQMOD software I'm loving it esp the Alignmaster addon
makes alignment so much easier and I also use a plate alignment to refine my tracking for better accuracy
