I just got my first 'smart phone' a Photon4G.

What the fuck is with all the apps needing access to my phone calls?

Are they just checking to see my unique phone number? It says, "whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like".

Does 'and the like' have a REAL definition? Do they gain access to my entire phonebook?

Is there a site that rates the security of Apps? (like whoever figured out you couldnt turn off gps on an iphone [until they fixed it]).

I realize Sprint and Google will already have all this info, i just dont see why 'Angry Birds' and 'Yahoo Sports' need some of the things they are requesting access to.

When downloading from the market it does need access to those things. In pretty sure when u open angry birds its going to acess your phone/4G. On the other hand games like weed farmer, mobster,kg dogfighting. Needs to access a 2g/3g/4G or WiFi connect to work properly. I recommend going to settings and turning off locations and gps ( not many apps use it ) also I recommend rooting your phone... Tapatalk works for the forum perfectly. Tor mobile or orbot for proxy.

c'mon, you didn't really think that "free apps" were actually free did you? somebody's sponsoring that technology and now you know why.

Yeah man, everything is fly by wire now. Every application uses your location and other info to blend the whole experience into one fluid operation. Facebook, Twitter, email, news, GPS, Four Square, Yelp, everything dude.

Theres a big difference between allowing the minimum to gain all the benefits vs being on Myface and twating your pointless tasks.

I have a social security number and i was born in a hospital; they took my footprints I HAVE PROOF. There has to be SOME threshold.

I'll probably check out that tor mobile, but i think my 'tin foil hat' starts a line at 'illegally geared' subject websites on the phone.

Im sure most of my activities could probably be tracked currently, i just dont want to make it a lot easier.

what rom the you switch to? i like like the insertcoin 2.3.4 beta , but i had that rom since i bought my htc sensation. ( gotta look for a new rom) also in my previous post i forgot about orweb v2. i'm not sure if it comes with orbot or not. but it's a must have if you want to surf anonymously . might find a lot of info on xda.

I have no need for a smart cell. My Dumb cell works just fine. It just needed to be a world cell.

Im pretty sure they are phone specific, it was called 'Photon ocr'. I checked a youtube about it, and it was basically 3 or 4 clicks (and two are normal operations on the phone). I had to run the rooting script twice, but i read on a forum it took one person 3x, so i wasnt worried.

Ive been saying that for over a year, and really trying to convince myself of it for the last 9 months. Internet at hand is the only but vast difference.
Its gonna cost me about $25 more a month, which is ridiculous, BUT my MP3 player was almost dead and had the worst interface.

I would have dropped more cash on a player than the phone ($100).
I always walked around with post it notes. (i went paperless with bank statements/bills/receipts ~5weeks ago).

Uhauls dont follow hearses, i said fuck it lets splurge.

I use to have a blackjack and then ATT made it mandatory that you had to pay for a data plan. Since I had my phone before they implemented I was grandfathered.... So 2 years pass and I brake my blackjack I replace the blackjack with the same phone another blackjack well since the Eni# was different then my original Blackjack they had to charge me 25$ per month extra..... I said FU and bought this phone I have.

i will never get a smart phone.
i want my phone to be as dumb as fucking possible - all i want is to make calls. for everything else there is a PC/laptop/mp3player/camera.

if my ancient razr v3 ever dies or if the networks won't support phones that old anymore, i'll gladly get out of this fucking CELL phone shit.
(also if they ever ban prepaid cards for cell phones, i'm out. fuck monthly plans)

what's fucked up about smartphones is pigs can get a warrant for your phone, and look through EVERYTHING - the sites you go to, your posts, your passwords, logs of EVERYTHING you do online.
To that I say just don't let them have your phone...if you're getting arrested take it and throw it as far as you can. Or just hide it.
Shit's out of control.
