Ocean Forest to hot for seedlings???

i use ffof straight up and have had no issues, even with seedlings...People say they have had problems with it being hot, but I have not encoutered it personally in about 5 years of growing my own...i've grown many diffrent strains in it...I love this stuff!!

The deal with ocean forest is that it can be too hot for seedlings depending on the buffering abilities of your water source. If using R/O or distilled, You might want to add the perlite as mentioned, and also add 1/2 tablespoon of bone meal or dolomite per gallon of soil mix to help buffer. You can also use bottled spring water for the first few waterings for its high buffering abilities.

peace!!

I use it with seedlings probably half and half with some plain (no fert) potting soil and have great results, but, yes, it depends greatly on your water source.

well ive been doing some reading and it seems to be certain strains that burn easily with the FFOF i just planted my seeds into this mix should i be worrying its 3 parts OF 1 Parts gardner and bloome both organic soils... should i nhave to worry about my seedlings burning???
S99 - SD x c99
Moe Mist - Chemdawg offshoot
Princess Diesel - IP x SD

anyone have any problems with this soil and those type of genes?

I think this is myth...I love starting mine in FFOF 100+ seeds and 60+ clones and no problems yet. Only time they get burned is when I added something to them too early. Here's a couple of pictures worth a thousand words...had a bunch more but they are on my comp that died

I have heard this from a very experienced gardening store employee and i believe it to be true......

Not all seedlings will be burned if you use straight-up uncut FFOF, because different strains have different nutrient uptake habits......the strains that we call "touchy feeders" seem to be more affected by the nutrient-rich "hot" FFOF soil.....

I would absolutely advise adding more perlite to FFOF to improve drainage properties......small amounts of sphagnum moss, coconut fibers (i recommend Atami/B'Cuzz brand over the bricked coco products), vermiculite (if you can find it), greensand, Rare Earth (tm) would also help diversify your soil mix.......

:ying: kind regards from guineapig :ying:

Haha...very nice Doobie and agree. I see the REv is rubbing off on you. A bit of a shame no one else picked up on this after you posted.

As for Guineapig...that genetic thing definitely plays a role but gotta defer to Doobie on this subject here cause that's pretty much it IMO.

ok then heres a question!!

Im using bottled water.. the Label says" Oak Creek Drinking Water Prepared By R/O"

would i be ok watering with this??? or should i get a certain type of water..

heres my situation i got 9 - 16oz cups filled with 3 parts FFOF & 1 Parts G&B organic soil..

i planted 5 seeds so far and waiting on the others ... they will only be in the 16oz cups for 1-2 weeks..

Whatever

First off why only 1-2 weeks in those 16 oz cups? Second that RO water has NO buffering ability and that's a bit of what Doobie was saying earlier. You gotta take into consideration the potential buffering capability of your water source....which RO has none. You build your soils buffering ability/capacity ie 'formula' based on your water.

well what type of water would be good> what type of additives is there?>??
i saw what doobie said earlier but i already made my mix and the seeds are planted so i cant mess with the soil unless you know of something,

well gonna leave them in there till they got a good root ball then transfer over to 1 gall container to sex them and then ill transfer my moms into bigger containers.. i have limited space and im just experimenting .. 1-2 weeks is my estimate i knock off the first week i usually get root bound quick in those cups. well the 12oz ones...

I dont know if this says anything but I have been starting 100+ seeds in big tubs of mixed/cooked for two weeks LC MIX with all the blood, bone and kelp all mixed in and haven't had any problems and im pretty sure that stuff is hotter than shit, who knows maybe its just the strain its auto ak so maybe.. I bet a blueberry would light on fire but I dunno..any input on that??

wretched... your water is prepared by reverse osmosis, so it is the opposite of what I am saying you need. You want a bottled spring water with lots of ppm's in it.

peace!
